I
call it the gift and the curse; it was an experience that has
provided me a valuable lesson along with financial hardship. My
experience with a direct marketing company was met with audacious
visions of being able to become rich as long a I put myself out there
and followed the path that was laid out before me. Prior to becoming
a part of this group I was naturally shy, which made it hard for me
to talk people that I was unfamiliar with. My self esteem was never
educated with positive reinforcement until then.
As
part of our training within the Direct Marketing group as well as
with a certain sales and marketing position for another fortune 100
corporation direct marketing position, we were required to read personal development books (such as Jack Canfield's The Success Principles which I highly recommend) ,
listen to sales tapes, and attend meetings/conferences all on a
periodic basis (daily with the corporation). Yet the most challenging part was prospecting, this
meant that I needed to look for prospective clients or potential
partners to bring into the business. The only way that I was going to
be able to accomplish this was to actually go up to strangers and
some how convince them to join my business. Where ever there were
people gathered, I had to be there, whether if it was at Barnes n
Noble, or the local mall. They say that public speaking is one of the
biggest fears people have, yet I think this was a notch higher. It
was one of the most uncomfortable and liberating experiences ever.
The more I did it the better I got at it, I received a lot of no’s
but I also received a lot of yeses. I soon transformed from a shy
person to a prospecting machine, it gave me some insight into the
power of human will. Yet the key ingredient to motivating oneself and
others to go outside the comfort zone is to have a strong Why.
Why
is the fuel needed in order to get to the destination that you are
destined to arrive to, along this journey you will have to do certain
things that will require you to go outside of your comfort zone. It
is during these times where the Why becomes the determinant factor as
to whether or not you will be willing to do what it takes to
accomplish your goals and dreams. If this is the case then why is it
that so many people are so worried or hesitant go out of their
comfort zone in order to reach their true potential? Again having a
strong and absolute WHY? My WHY? has to do with alleviating some of
my family's financial dilemmas in a small and shrinking town as well
as giving my Mother the reward of a beautiful home to retire to
comfortably and perhaps have others help her instead of what she has
always done for so many others which is anything and everything
necessary to help them.
I am currently with another great Direct Sales business and proud to be a member is Javita Coffee Company and own my own distributorship online, and the wonderful thing (besides the ease and the delicious gourmet flavor of Drink Share Earn) is that the company is behind me all the way to guarantee my success as I am to guarantee the success of my associates.
